Description:

Amitryn 25 Tablet- 10 is an effective medicine used for the prevention of migraine attacks. It can also be used to treat neuropathic pain (nerve pain that may be caused by nerve damage or chronic diseases such as diabetes) in adults. It is also used to treat depression in adult patients

Uses / Indications:

Depression, Neuropathic pain, Migraine

Interactions / Warnings:

Amitryn 25mg Tablet may cause excessive drowsiness and calmness with alcohol.

Pregnancy interaction:

Amitryn 25mg Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.

Expert advice:

The main dose should be taken at night as this drug may produce drowsiness or sleepiness. It can take 4 to 6 weeks for Amitryn to start working. You should continue the treatment for at least 6 months after you feel better to stop depression from coming back. If your doctor asks you to stop Amitryn, you should reduce the dose slowly over 4 weeks. You should not discontinue it abruptly. Avoid driving or operating machinery as it may decrease alertness. Avoid consuming alcohol when taking the Amitryn, as it may cause excessive drowsiness and calmness. The addiction/dependence potential of Amitryn is very less. It may be extremely dangerous in overdose.

Side Effects:

Sleepiness, Blurred vision, Increased heart rate, Dryness in mouth, Constipation, Weight gain, Difficulty in urination, Orthostatic hypotension (sudden lowering of blood pressure on standing).

How to use:

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Amitryn 25mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
