Interactions / Warnings:

Taking Furosemide with alcohol may have additive effects in lowering your blood pressure. You may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate.

Pregnancy interaction:

Frusenex 100mg Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.

Expert advice:

Frusenex helps removes excess water from your body and lower blood pressure. Take it in the morning with breakfast to avoid getting up at night to urinate. May cause dizziness in the initial days of treatment. Monitor your blood pressure after starting Frusenex, and notify your doctor if it hasn't gone down. Notify your doctor if you experience dizziness, tiredness, or muscle weakness that doesn't go away. Take potassium supplements or potassium-rich diet (banana, spinach, coconut water etc) as Frusenex can decrease your potassium levels and lead to dehydration. Requires routine blood tests to monitor your kidney function.

Side Effects:

Dehydration, Decreased potassium level in blood, Decreased magnesium level in blood, Increased blood uric acid.

How to use:

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Frusenex 100 Tablet- 10 may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How it works:

Frusenex 100mg Tablet is a loop diuretic. It acts on kidneys and removes excess water and certain electrolytes from the body through urine.

Q: How is Frusenex different from Torasemide?
A: Both Frusenex and Torasemide are loop diuretics and are used to treat high blood pressure and edema caused by an underlying liver, kidney or lung diseases but Frusenex is also used in the treatment of hypercalcemia (high calcium levels in the blood). However, Torasemide has a long duration of action and is safe to use in patients with renal failure as compared to furosemide.
