Amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide are diuretics which remove extra water and certain electrolytes from the body through urine. Over time, hydrochlorothiazide also relaxes blood vessels but causes potassium loss. Amiloride is added as it conserves potassium thereby balancing its levels in the body.
