Pregnancy interaction:

Laveran Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.

Expert advice:

Take precautions to reduce the chances of being bitten by mosquitoes while on proguanil treatment.Start taking proguanil one week or at least two days before you enter the malaria area and continue to take it during your stay and for 4 weeks after leaving the malaria area.Take proguanil with a glass of water after meals to decrease the possibility of stomach upset.Tell your doctor immediately if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant or if you are breast-feeding.

Side Effects:

Nausea, Flushing (sense of warmth in the face, ears, neck and trunk), Gastric intolerance, Headache, Indigestion, Loss of appetite, Mouth ulcer, Stomatitis (Inflammation of the mouth), Vomiting, Constipation, Diarrhoea.

How to use:

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Laveran Tablet- 10 may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How it works:

Laveran Tablet is a weak base that reaches high concentration within the malarial parasite and causes accumulation of toxic heme pigment, which kills it.
