Interactions / Warnings:

Taking Methotrxate with alcohol increases the risk of liver damage.

Pregnancy interaction:

Neotrexate 2.5mg Tablet is highly unsafe to use during pregnancy.Human and animal studies have shown significant adverse effects on the foetus. Please consult your doctor.

Expert advice:

For autoimmune diseases, Neotrexate is taken by mouth, once a week (not every day) on the same day each week. It can take 2 to 3 weeks for Neotrexate to start working. Notify your doctor immediately if you develop a sore throat or fever (infection), bruising or bleeding, nausea, abdominal pain or dark urine or difficulty breathing. Your doctor may ask to get complete blood count (CBC), kidney function test (KFT) and liver function test (LFT) before starting treatment and thereafter also. Neotrexate may harm your unborn babies or cause miscarriages. You and your partner should avoid conception (becoming pregnant or fathering children) for at least three months after your treatment with Neotrexate has stopped. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to conceive or breastfeeding. Inform your doctor if you have ever been diagnosed with kidney or liver problems.

Side Effects:

Nausea, Vomiting, Loss of appetite, Dyspepsia, Abdominal pain, Increased liver enzymes, Stomatitis (Inflammation of the mouth).

How to use:

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Neotrexate Tablet- 10 may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How it works:

Neotrexate 2.5mg Tablet is an anticancer and immunosuppressive medication. It works in cancer by slowing the growth of cancer cells by blocking building blocks that cancer cells need to grow. It also works in autoimmune disease by decreasing the activity of body's immune system and prevents the body from attacking itself.
