Description:

Supermet-AM Tablet PR- 10 contains two medicines, both of which help to control high blood pressure and heart rate. It is also used for heart-related chest pain, abnormal heart rhythms and chronic (long-term) heart failure.

Uses / Indications:

Â Hypertension (high blood pressure)

Interactions / Warnings:

Taking Metoprolol with alcohol may have additive effects in lowering your blood pressure. You may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate.

Pregnancy interaction:

Supermet-AM Tablet PR- 10 may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.

Expert advice:

Before taking it, let your doctor know if you have any liver or kidney problems. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also consult their doctor for advice before taking this medicine. You also need to tell your doctor what other medicines you are taking especially those used to treat high blood pressure or heart conditions.

Side Effects:

Headache, Ankle swelling, Flushing (sense of warmth in the face, ears, neck and trunk), Slow heart rate, Tiredness, Stomach pain, Nausea, Edema (swelling), Constipation, Palpitations, Cold extremities.

How to use:

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Supermet-AM Tablet PR- 10 Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How it works:

Supermet-AM Tablet PR- 10 is a combination of two medicines: Amlodipine and metoprolol which lower blood pressure effectively. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker which works by relaxing blood vessels while metoprolol is a beta blocker that works specifically on the heart to slow down the heart rate. Together, they make the heart more efficient at pumping blood throughout the body.
